NaPoWriMo - Day 26 - 30

Day 26 -
And when I look upon her,
I envision my future.
We stand alone on a beach,
the soft water waves across our feet
as our toes sink deeper into the sand.
I reach up to take her hand,
she pulls me close and whispers in my ear.
I can feel her warm breath upon my neck
and I can almost taste the sweetness of her lips.
It was as close as I would ever get to paradise,
she is, was, and will be all I will ever want or need.

Day 27 -
Wheel of Fortune
Hey, Vanna, pick me a letter.
Every night, you flip for me
and I try to guess
what is on your mind.
Spin the wheel,
win a trip,
grab some cash,
buy a vowel.
Oh, Vanna, pick me a letter.

Day 28 -
You wouldn't believe the views,
up in the Catskill Mountains.
Camping up at Skyway,
is always the best!
You should come up and join us,
we'll toast marshmallows!

Day 29 -
My memories of the rabbits
were quite different.
I remember going to
Apple Picker's farm.
We chose a bunny to take home.
He froze to death over the winter.
Next time we went to the farm,
we ate shish kebabs.
Where do you think they came from?
I always thought they were so fluffy,
so cute.
Hundreds of them, all trapped
in their cages.
Maybe it wasn't so cute after all.

Day 30 -
 The fact is that I
continue to think about her
and always wonder

NaPoWriMo 2018 - Day 23 - 25

Day 23 -
I could hear the murmurings,
all the whispers,
no one wanted to tell me the truth,
but isn't that everything we always seek?
Why for anyone instance
would I not want to know?
Do they think that they can hide it?
Do they think that I won't die,
as long as they don't say it out loud?

Day 24 -
And when that last day comes,
I hope they say he was a good man.
Maybe someone will have learned something,
even though he was never an actual teacher.
Maybe someone's life turned out better
because of something he did for them.
Maybe his daughter will finally know the truth,
but it will probably be up to him to tell her.
Maybe he will have used all the crayons in the box,
at least once.
Maybe the day won't be so dark
or the moon hang so low.
Maybe he will have accomplished something
that people will be able to carry on with them.
But if I'm ever going to get to that point
then it is time to get busy living
or get busy dying.

Day 25 -
Do not leave out in the cold.
Do not under cook.
Do not allow to wander
too far.
Do not allow to play in traffic.
Do not ignore.
Do not listen to his tales
with doubt.

NaPoWriMo - Day 19 - 22

It was dark
on the sixth
in a
cab with
Jimmy.
We was
on I-10,
'bout a mile out
and about.

Day 20 -
The one rule,
the one rule they told me not to break
was the only one that
I could no longer follow.
Might it have saved my life?
Probably, but would it have been a life worth living?
Too late to think about that now,
but at least I have the satisfaction of knowing
that is all they will be thinking about
for a long time to come.

Day 21 -
And if not a flower be,
what would you rather,
a peasant, a lamb, or tree?
Some see it as a curse, but
the flower is beauty
as beautiful as can be.

Day 22 -
The clock can not strike thirteen.
This is a haiku.
Triskaidekaphobia.

NaPoWriMo - Day 18

Day 18 -
Though we don't have the means,
somehow,
someday,
I will repay you.
As I come to you,
shattered,
broken,
but with new life on-board.
Will you
turn your backs
and walk away?
My fate is in your hands.
Help her to soar,
high above the
clouds.
Off into
the stars.

Inspired by the poem 'Question' by Robert Frost
A voice said, Look me in the stars
And tell me truly, men of earth,
If all the soul-and-body scars
Were not too much to pay for birth.

NaPoWriMo Day 12 - 17

Day 12 -
A quiet suburb,
small forest,
frequent visitors from various animals.
A baseball field filed with children,
small shops on main street,
the end of the block
the mighty Hudson River,
so peaceful yet strong.

Day 13 -
It takes a community
to raise a child,
but she had none.
She was forced to raise her child
all on her own.
No brothers, grandmothers, or uncles.
No sisters, grandpas, or aunts.
Alone, cold.
She worked hard.
Saved.
No government handouts.
She scrimped and saved.
No father, he walked away.
It was just her against the world
and she won.
She had to raise that child on her own.
She was a community of one.

Do you see what I hear?
Do you see what I hear?
Look close, the trees,
the soft, white blanket
below them.
Nestle around,
everyone come together,
if you fall,
I will catch you.

NaPoWriMo 2018 Day 1 - 4

Day One -
If I were a bird
on this new Easter Day
I'd fly so high
up, up, and away
I'd dress to the nines
and wear my best suit
I'd partake in a feast
of berries and fruit
I'd spot the eggs
that no one could find
all the colors of a rainbow
running through my mind
